Stagecoach South East Is Highly Commended At UK Bus Awards
Local bus operator Stagecoach South East, a Patron of the Chamber, has been highly commended for its efforts to positively change the company’s workplace culture, matching up operational excellence with fresh ideas brought to life by engaged employees.
The bus company was shortlisted for ‘Culture Change’ at the recent 2024 UK Bus Awards. The category included eight finalists from across the UK, ranging from engineering safety initiatives, commercial relations projects, and strike resolution.
Stagecoach South East’s People at the Heart Capability Policy has helped to create a culture of trust and continuous development within the business. Written in collaboration with Unite The Union, the policy provides an empathetic framework to ensure that employees meet performance standards. It has been recognised as best practise and is now being rolled out in the other Stagecoach operating companies across the country.
Joel Mitchell, managing director of Stagecoach South East, said “This is fantastic recognition for the culture change agenda at Stagecoach South East. There are no short-cuts when it comes to building the foundations on which a high-trust culture is based, and our new Capability Policy is one such building block that has already delivered a significant impact on employee turnover.

The UK Bus Awards are a not-for-profit initiative aimed at recognising remarkable achievements and innovations within the industry. This year, the awards ceremony was held at Troxy in London and was hosted by BBC News presenter Jane Hill.
