Kent Construction Focus Group (KCFG) – Panel Session Special – 1st April

The Kent Construction Focus Group (KCFG) is a one-stop-shop for local businesses to discuss the future of Kent development, giving companies access to local knowledge, expertise and contracts. KCFG promotes the future role of Kent land development and construction businesses in the growth and development of Kent and its environment.

Hosted by members of the KCFG committee, Cheryl Causebrook and Ella Brocklebank. Enjoy a Full English Breakfast at the Chilston Park Hotel, served from 7:30am, accompanied by speaker presentations and networking opportunities throughout the morning.

Guest Speaker: Tim Wilkinson
Director – Banking & Finance, MHA

Tim’s experience in the funding & business finance arena spans circa 30 years – at least half of which was working primarily with first tier subcontractors in the wider construction space.

This primarily involved structuring working capital solutions to assist with cashflow when new contracts were let or circumstances dictated that traditional bank lending was either simply not available or the terms of the potential financing were not attractive.

Tim has in-depth knowledge of subcontractors’ cash flow dynamics – from raising Applications for Payment under overarching contracts to managing the complexities of payment timing, underpayments, and payless notices. He enjoys working with businesses that engage subcontractors, helping them navigate their funding challenges.

Guest Speaker: Steve Morris
Associate Director, GVE Commercial Solutions

Steve is a highly-skilled and knowledgeable commercial lead with a 30-year career spanning civil engineering, highways, rail, water and construction sectors. Previously working for:

Costain, Birse Rail, Balfour Beatty, Morgan Sindall, FM Conway and Octavious

Steve is experienced in building and managing commercial teams to successfully deliver projects. With strong knowledge of commercial and contractual principles, Steve joined GVE Commercial Solutions in 2023 as an associate director and commercial manager. In addition to supporting commercial teams on varied projects, he contributes his expertise by writing articles in specialist industry publications and delivering talks on contractual matters.

Guest Speaker: Chris Kirby-Turner
Partner Construction & Engineering, Thomson Snell & Passmore

Chris leads on the team’s dispute resolution, litigation and adjudication matters.

His practice encompasses all stages of construction disputes from initial advisory work and input on ongoing commercial negotiations on live projects through to complex adjudications and multi-party claims in the Technology & Construction Court (TCC).

He has considerable experience in devising and implementing effective strategies to resolve disputes at an early stage, and regularly resolves complex disputes by way of mediation.
