Claims made against a business and its management, even if they are unproven, can have a devastating effect on the organisation, the individuals and their families.

Management Liability Portfolio (MLP) insurance provides cover for senior management individuals to provide financial protection in the case of claims against them.

Claims made against a business can arise from a wide range of circumstances, and it is important to remember that a claim does not have to be justified and factual to initiate costly legal defences.

The nature of claims for ‘wrongful acts’ can include:

• Libel and slander
• Breach of fiduciary duty to the company
• Breach of statutory duties
• Trading whilst insolvent
• Acting outside a manager’s authority/powers

• Regulatory Investigations such as the Health & Safety Executive and HM Revenue & Customs or the relevant regulatory body by industry
