A Northfleet-based community foodbank has received a £1,000 donation from the Amazon fulfilment centre in Dartford.

The donation was made to Hive Hope, a charity that works across Northfleet, Gravesham and Dartford to provide people in crisis with emergency food supplies. Alongside two static foodbank locations, Hive Hope runs a mobile foodbank van named by volunteers as Barry, which allows the charity to reach more communities in need.

The donation from Amazon in Dartford will be put towards purchasing essential items for the foodbank including bread, eggs, fruit and vegetables.

Dora Torma is an Amazon employee who nominated the charity for support. She commented:

“I often see the volunteers from Hive Hope serving the local community from the mobile foodbank van and their efforts are really appreciated by those in need. I am so glad Amazon could provide them with this donation.”

John McEwen, Site Leader at Amazon in Dartford, added:

“Hive Hope is a fantastic community organisation which supports families and individuals in need. I hope this donation provides a boost to the charity and its volunteers as they serve in Northfleet, Dartford and beyond.”

Deborah Keys, from Hive Hope, said:

“Thank you to John and the team at Amazon in Dartford for this donation. The demand for our support is increasing every month so we are grateful to receive this boost.”

Community donations are just one of the ways Amazon supports the communities where it operates. Amazon has supported more than 500,000 students across the UK with free computer science and STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer.

Amazon helps community organisations transport meals and other essentials to families in need through its pro bono logistics programme, Amazon Local Good, including more than seven million healthy breakfasts to children at risk of hunger in partnership with Magic Breakfast. And through its Multibank initiative, co-founded with former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Amazon has supported more than 200,000 families experiencing poverty, with the donation of more than 2 million surplus essential goods.

Amazon partners with Comic Relief to help people tackle poverty and is the official home of the charity’s iconic Red Nose. Together with its employees, customers, and partners, Amazon has raised over £4.8 million to fund projects that support people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and tackle issues such as homelessness, mental health problems, and food insecurity across the UK, and around the world.
